Be a Changemaker – Volunteer or Foster

Outside the daily shelter work that includes example our caregivers and veterinarians, One Rescue relys a lot on different types of volunteering too.

Make a difference today! Join us in volunteering, fostering or visiting us to create a brighter tomorrow. Your time and kindness can change our dogs and cats lives.

Volunteer

There are many ways to volunteer example by helping us online with social media content creation, fundraising or with the website updates. At Romania you can and are very welcome to help by visiting our shelter and socialising with our animals, or by taking pictures or videos of them during the visit. Other possible ways to offer help if you are in Romania, is to join our local adoption coordinating team or helping at local adoption events.

We offer a volunteer position in small team with nice colleagues and meaningful and motivating animal protection work. We offer guidance & mentoring for new team members and are there for them in learning process. Volunteering does not include financial compensation for the work, but our homeless animals & team will thank you from bottom of our hearts.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join our team, especially remotely online!

We wish applicants to be committed to volunteering and be able to work both independently and in a group.

Social Media – content creation. We are currently looking for new team members for social media. Former experience is advantage, as well as knowledge of using Canva. We hope applicants would have time to create posts/reels continuesly 1-2 times per week. Tasks can be done completely remotely.

Offer your time at shelter – Visit us!

Together with our volunteers and cooperation partners we change many lives for better every year through adoptions. This usually requires that dogs and cats are socialised enough and for this we gladly receive help. Time spent with our dogs and cats, such as socializing, petting, brushing, or leash training with puppies, is very precious to our animals.

You can volunteer at our shelter and help us to do this important part of the work and socialise with our adorable dogs and cats. Your presence can bring happiness and enriches their day.

Also if you would like to see our activities on site, such visits are also welcome. Visits are generally possible on weekdays from Monday to Friday between 11:00 – 16:00 , and on weekends per request, all visits require an appointment made in advance so that we can ensure that the instructor is available.

Be a Foster Parent for pup or cat in need

Being a Foster Parent means temporarily welcoming a dog or a cat into your home while they wait to be adopted, and giving it a safe environment away from the shelter. Foster home cares for the animal as if it were their own pet until a forever home is found.

For a dog or a cat placing them to foster home can be like lottory win for them, positive home environment where they receive love, care, and basic training and socialization will raise their chances to get adopted. Be patient especially at beginning, every animal is unique and adjusts to being out of the shelter at their own pace, some need more time than others. Respect the animal’s own phase to adapt, when it arrives into foster home may not know anything yet. They may have lived on the street or in a shelter since beginnig of their life, so they may not have indoor cleanliness yet, or skills how to behave (example for dogs; how to behave on a leash, or being alone.)

Foster parents report back to the shelter in weekly basis about the animal’s personality and behavior, which is often different outside of the shelter environment. This information is important to find matchy home with the animal’s needs.

Benefits

You’ll get a opportunity to have a flyffy friend, without years of commitment.

Fostering is a valuable experience about home life, giving them all the love and care they need.

Association provides necessary vet visits. We wish that fosterer would provide pet food on their own but this is negotiable.

Responsibilites

Foster home offers daily care and covers dog’s/cat’s basic needs:

  • Daily walks (dogs)
  • Activities & Playing
  • Grooming
  • If necessary administrating medications
  • Providing pictures and videos for association in weekly basis.

Requirments

Before applying, especially for a foster pup, we kindly requested you to think twice, do you have what it takes to take care of something as time consuming as a puppy. Do you have these qualities:

  • Commitment
  • Patience
  • Activity
  • Cooperation skills
  • Suitable living situation

Apply to foster a dog – Bucharest & Ilfov areas

Applying to be a foster home, you will need to contact us by an email and to fill information form, we will then shortly get back to you about interview schedule to get to know you better. After an interview if we have a suitable animal to be a good match with foster home, fostering can take action in 1-2 weeks of time. Written contract will be made between One Rescue and the foster home.

Before applying, please consider once more, do you have enough time to for walks, training, play time, and snuggle time. Especially puppies and kittens, may mess up, chew, or destroy various items without intending any harm as they explore new things around them or learn to regulate their emotions. Foster home takes an animal to their care being aware of the risks and not holding association accountable for them.

If after a time spent together with an animal, you would change your mind and would like to adopt it, this is possible and negotiable. In such case new contract would be made to change status from fosterer to adopter and we would hand out dog’s legal documents such as health book.

Finding a permanent home might take time, from weeks to months or even half year, please be patient on this aspect too. Amount of home offerers, or lack of them, to a certain dog or cat is beyond our control.

However the hardest part of fostering may be when you let your foster pet go onto their new forever home. A moment that can be filled with joy and longing at the same time. It is a moment to be proud of, you helped someone in need and guided them into their new life.
